Processed-sugar Products don’t go with PCOS

Why should you avoid eating sugar-infused products? 

Are you a sweet tooth and you can’t resist eating those chocolates, cupcakes, and sweets?  

Well, sugar isn’t that bad for health but as they say excess of anything can have harmful effects on your body, and similarly sugar also has side effects that can affect your overall health in the long run, if moderation is not maintained.  

Added sugars in foods can increase the risk of chronic diseases like – obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc. and cause inflammation in the body. 

Why is it so bad for women suffering from PCOS?  

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a condition where women go through a lot of hormonal imbalances and a healthy diet is extremely important to prevent the symptoms from getting worse. 

Carbonated beverages and packaged foods have a high amount of sugar content which can result in extra insulin in the bloodstream. This extra insulin can affect the arteries walls to get inflammed, which in turn stresses your heart and slowly damages it over time. Extra insulin in the blood will also aggravate male hormones in the body worsening the hormonal imbalances.  

Foods like white bread, pastries, muffins, and white potatoes are not only high in added-sugar, but they’re high in refined vegetable oils and calories – all of which make the battle against the PCOS symptoms that much harder! 

It is better to be informed than ignorant. Here’s a quick summary of how these processed foods can affect your health:  

  • Exacerbate insulin resistance 
  • Cause inflammation 
  • Increase risk of acne 
  • Accelerate skin-aging process 
  • Increase risk of fatty liver 

But there is Hope!  

In order to flush out the excess sugar from your system, drink plenty of water and eat fiber-rich food. You can also stabilize your blood sugar levels by consuming slow-digesting protein. 

If you are very fond of eating  desserts and cannot resist consuming them then, you can opt for better alternatives of processed sugar such as – dates, honey, jaggery, fruits, etc but all these in a limited quantity again!
